Despite promises that President Joe Biden wouldn’t pardon his son, the hypocrisy is only a drop in the bucket
Hunter Biden isn’t a figure who’s above reproach, but it’s fair to say he wouldn’t have faced the treatment he did if he weren’t the son of the president. And yet, one of the great frustrations in that truth is that it’s precisely the argument that our opponents have been making for years about their candidate and now president-elect. They said that the charges against him were wholly political. They believe Trump’s felonies are a reflection of a broken and weaponized justice system rather than an indication he’s committed very real crimes.
And yet, these two cases are not one and the same, and for Republicans to paint the manner in such a sweeping light is flagrantly dishonest. The separate rap sheets that Hunter Biden and Donald Trump can claim vary in length by miles. Trump’s history of malfeasance stretches back to well before he ever entered our politics. The list has grown to include everything from sexual assault to election interference in the years since and that’s only just scratching the surface. He’s a felon. He’s an adjudicated rapist. Were he not a president or a billionaire, he’d be rotting in a cell.
